What is Reiki?
The word Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese word for universal
life-force energy, or Chi in Chinese medicine.
Reiki is a Japanese holistic, light-touch, energy-based modality which works
as a support mechanism to the body. Reiki helps reestablish a normal energy
flow of ki/chi, or life force energy, throughout the system, which in turn
can enhance and accelerate the body's innate healing ability.
Through
a series of hand positions on the body,
the practitioner allows for a neutral flow of energy through his/her body which is drawn on by the client’s body as needed.
The simplicity of Reiki may raise some skepticism, however, after experiencing it, most clients return for more of the profound benefits and relaxation. Reiki is simple and it produces measurable results. It is powerful yet gentle, and has no concern relating to religion, economics, location, gender or race.
History of Reiki
Reiki is an ancient practice of energy healing native to Japan.
It was passed on from teacher to student for many centuries and kept
secret until it was made popular by Dr. Mikao Usui who studied medicine, psychology, religion, and spiritual development in the early 1900's.

How Reiki Works
Reiki energy is drawn through the body of the practitioner to the client.
During
the treatment, the energy continually feeds and balances both the client
and the practitioner. As a consequence the channel is never drained
when
giving a healing, because they too are treated in the process.
A Reiki treatment generally involves a light and gentle touch. Reiki is often used in conjunction with all forms of body work
disciplines and techniques, but is also performed as a distinct healing practice.
Many people that undergo Reiki are struck by the intense feelings of
warmth and comfort they feel during a session. Others claim to actually
feel the waves of energy transfer from the practitioner into their
bodies.
Reiki treatments can occur in two ways: In person or long distance. Each are equally effective.
What are the Priciples of Reiki?
The principles offer a simple guideline for daily conduct with others and self.
They are:
- Just for today, I will not anger
-
Just for today, I will not worry
- Just for today, I will be grateful
-
Just for today, I will work hard on myself
- Just for today, I will be kind to others
